The best is not always from a cookbook!

If you’re like me, you probably have a favorite cookbook that you use even though you may have many cookbooks to choose from.  One of my favorites is my Fannie Farmer cookbook.  I am sure that I use this cookbook more than any other of my over 70 cookbooks!  But my favorite recipes are not always found in the pages of published cookbooks.  Stashed away in one of my cupboards is a quart-sized plastic storage bag filled with clippings from newspapers, sides of sugar boxes, 3×5 cards and computer print-outs. . . all of recipes that have either been tried or are waiting to be tried by me.  Some are hand-written treasures handed down from my mom.  Some are some from other family members and friends who willingly shared some of their family’s favorites.  Why do I keep these recipes here and why don’t I get them organized into a file or notebook?  I haven’t a clue! It might just be because this little bag of recipes was my mother’s, and she kept it in her cupboard, too.  Oh, I’ve added my own favorites to the bag, and it does seem to be splitting at the sides, but the memories of this bag of recipes out-weighs any desire I might have to finally get it organized!

  1. What a sweet post of memories! I’d like to look through your bag next time I’m there! Thanks for sharing that!
